ASSOCIATION NEWS...

Picnic in the Park

The weather was much kinder to us this year when we held our Annual Picnic on Sunday 26th May at Orleigh Park, West End. Once again many families came along to contribute to a very happy day.

The staff of the Association put a lot of time and energy into the day but it always gives us great pleasure seeing the children enjoying themselves, and watching them meeting again with friends from camps and holiday programmes, and also seeing the parents new and old, mingling and catching up on what has been going on in their lives.

Once again we thank Rosemary Hickstein for organizing the Cake Stall which raised nearly $200 on the day. This of course, could not happen without the generous donations of cakes, biscuits and fruit, from our mothers, grandmothers and friends. Thanks also to Nick Butler and his friend for performing the magic act which was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Thanks also to Vicki Richards for her help with the races, and to the Chefs of the Day - you did a great job!

Congratulations to the winners in the raffle. First prize went to Marie and Bill Adams who are looking forward to that weekend at Twin Waters. Second prize went to Cathy Lutvey and third prize to Pauline Roberts. A day like Picnic in the Park always reinforces to the staff why we are here and what we are working towards.

Congratulations

To our Physiotherapist, Elizabeth Steele and husband Jim, on the birth of Andrew David on 29th April, weighing 8lbs 7ozs. A brother for Michael and Katrina. Elizabeth is currently on maternity leave until early next year.

Introducing Sandy

My name is Sandy Morrow and I am the new Social Worker with the Children's Team, working with families north of the Brisbane River.

I was educated at Clayfield College and obtained my social work qualification from the University of Queensland. I am married with three adult children.

My early social work experience involved working with children with disabilities and their families at the Queensland Spastic Welfare League.

I am looking forward to working with “the team” and meeting as many of our children and families as possible. There may be many areas where families are unaware of the support that our Association can offer.

Please feel free to call me at any time if I can be of assistance to your family.

Please keep the evening of Wednesday 11th September free, as the Association's Annual General Meeting will be held at Queen Alexandra Home, 347 Old Cleveland Road, Coorparoo. More information will be sent out in August.
