2005 Wheel and Walk

Over 300 entrants took part in the 2005 Wheel and Walk Fun Run to raise funds for SBH Queensland on 9th October 2005.

While some entrants took the event very seriously others were happy just to enjoy the day.  Entrants had the choice of running, walking or wheeling 2, 4 or 8 kilometres along the Brisbane River boardwalk from Captain Burke Park under the Story Bridge, past the Kangaroo Point Cliffs, across the Goodwill Bridge to the Botanic Gardens and return.

On the left a group of elite athletes discuss tactics before the run. The winner of the 8 kilometre run, Don Atcheson, appears in the centre of the photo in a dark singlet.

Also featuring among the winners were Chevy Black who took out the 4 km run, Rodney Laing the 2 km run and Kirsty Bishop the 2 km wheelchair race.

Prizes were also awarded for the highest individual and team fundraisers. The winner of the highest individual fundraiser was Kirsty Bishop and the highest team fundraiser was Maya Thurecht's team.

Many thanks must go to the many sponsors and people who gave their time to ensure the event was very  successful. Special thanks must go to Bartercard Outer Brisbane North the principal sponsor of the event, who donated $T10, 000 to help with the costs of staging the event.
